Sanford Fair

The Seminole County Fair opened today so it was a fun Friday night event for us.  We just went for a few hours but it was so fun and we’ll definitely go again –especially since it’s only about 10 minutes from our house.

Late night

March 27, 2008

After a late night last night, I sooo wanted to be in bed tonight by 9:00.  I’m not for several reasons:

  • Rodd is still up working and I typically sleep better when he’s in bed.
  • I had to see who got kicked off American Idol.
  • I’ve had this cough that has been lingering on and I know as soon as I lay down, I will be coughing for the rest of the night.
  • I needed to send a quick email to my mom & sister.
  • Finally…because my heart is so heavy for several friends of mine who are going through some really tough times right now, and I hurt so badly for them!  I read these verses tonight and they gave me such a fresh reminder of the love of God.   And now I really am going to bed.

 Lamentations 3:21-24

 Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:

 Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,
       for his compassions never fail.

 They are new every morning;
       great is your faithfulness.

 I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion;
       therefore I will wait for him.”

Happy Easter

Here are a few pictures of our day today!  We ended up spending the day with just the 4 of us!  Grill master, Rodd cooked us some delicious steaks and we had a relaxing afternoon.  We tried to make today as meaningful as we could to a 1 and 3 year old, but you can only go so deep on their level before Logan starts asking for a ball or banana and Sydney goes off on a tangent about princesses.  We absolutely cannot wait until they are old enough to understand the true meaning of Easter and celebrate all that Christ did on their behalf!!  

We have been thinking a lot about our good friends, Mark and Holly Woodard in Papua New Guinea who are undoubtedly experiencing the best days of their lives as they daily teach the gospel to a group of people who have never heard about Jesus.  Just think… next year they will celebrate Easter with brothers and sisters in the Lord in a whole new way! Good Friday

March 23, 2008

Friday was a holiday for Rodd, so he stayed home and we colored easter eggs and made yummy pretzels with the help of our sweet friend, Joy.  I think the pretzel making will be our new tradition.  By the time the eggs were done, the pretzel dough was ready to roll out and bake.  They made for a yummy lunch! After naps we went over to Palmer’s “house/Minnie Winnie” and had a cookout with them. We were surprised to have a visit from some missionary friends from PNG.  It was such a special treat to spend time with them, and it made for an extra fun egg hunt with their 4 adorable girls.

Warm Florida day

We really do love living in Florida. It took a while for it to seem like “home” to me, but now I am so thankful to be living here.  I love it for many reasons, but this weekend it was all about the weather!  We tried out a new splash pad that opened several miles from our house and the kids had a blast!  It’s so fun letting them get out and burn off some energy.

Getting ready for Easter

Not sure what our plans for Easter will be this year.  We were planning on getting together with Rodd’s family, but our sweet niece, Madison, came down with a terrible case of the flu, so they decided to cancel. If you think of it pray that she will get better soon.

Hilight of my night!

We had some friends over for dinner tonight, and right when we finished eating, I got a call from my sister in Papua New Guinea.  It was the first time I had talked to her in over a year and I can’t even say how special and incredibly wonderful it was to hear her voice. While I was talking to her I watched 4 little kids run around the house with popsicles dripping down their faces, staining shirts and carpet, but I totally didn’t care.  :)  I talked briefly to my sweet nephews, who each asked when we were going to visit them in their tribe, and for the remaining minutes which flew by I soaked up as much as I could with Kar.  My parents were with Lane and Karrie for a few weeks, so they took them out to the city to say goodbye-and enjoyed a much needed vacation together while they were there. (This is why they were able to call us.)  Of course after I got off the phone I thought of a million different questions to ask or details to share!   It didn’t even seem real that I had just talked to her–but it was SO great!!!

We went bowling this afternoon with Rusty, Ginger and Madison and Foltz’s joined us later! We all enjoyed doing something different–It was a little crazy with the kids wandering off into other lanes at times, but overall it was fun. The only downside is that I now owe Ginger a coffee because she got a strike before me. ;)

Firstfruits

My amazing husband finally finished the perfectly tailored budget for our family. Might seem like nothing to you…but to us it was huge and something we (okay, he) has been working on the past 3 years! We never could get a hold of how to go about budgeting when our income varied (often drastically) from month to month, and when it came right down to it–tithing was an afterthought and our heart was rarely in it. We did what we wanted with our money–as though any of it belonged to us in the first place. I know…quite ridiculous isn’t it?

Proverbs 3:9 says “Honor the Lord with your wealth–with the first fruits of your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing: and your vats will brim over with new wine.” As followers of Christ, we want to get ourselves to a place where generosity is both a pre-planned discipline and a means to joy. Having this budget is a practical way of helping us go about it. Now the fun part of sticking to it.
