Mrs. Harris for the day

February 28, 2009

At 8:30 on Thursday night I got a call from Sydney’s teacher, asking if I would “sub” for her the next morning.  I had a good laugh with her and then realized she really was in desperate need of help!  (The other teachers and 2 other moms who are actual teachers either had sick kids or doctor appointments.)  So…I showed up Friday morning and totally  “winged it.”  I’ve helped out in the class enough to know the basic schedule of  the morning, so it really was fine.  (We had exceptionally long snack and play ground time.)  Of course the unit this week was on dogs and cats–my 2 biggest fears and least knowledgeable topics.  :)

Sydney was in her glory…being my bossy little teacher’s assistant.

The worst part of the day was that I missed Logan so badly. I saw him really quick in the morning before I dropped him off at Stacy’s house–and by the time I got home, Rodd had come home for lunch and put him down for his nap–so I didn’t even see him til 4:00. I was so glad to see my boy! ♥

“What, Mom?”

February 27, 2009
Over the past few weeks we noticed that Logan was having a hard time hearing us. It was starting to concern us loganicecreambecause it seemed to be getting worse. After seeing our pediatrician we realized that after an ear infection Logan had in January, the fluid didn‘t drain completely behind his ears and that‘s what has been causing his limited hearing. We’re thankful it was nothing serious & just wish we could do something for him other than letting it run its course over the next 3 months.  So for now I get a lot of, “WHAT, Mom?” or “What-you-say, Mom?”  Several of you had asked how he was doing, so I just wanted to get an update out to you! Thanks for checking in on us and praying!

My new favorite worship song.

February 26, 2009

At church last night we sang some songs reflecting on our sinfulness and God’s amazing grace.  However, one particular song brought tears to my eyes as I reflected on the grace of God and His sacrifice and acceptance of me because of Christ. I think this may very well be my new favorite.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

i heart my dell

February 22, 2009

My family got me my own mini laptop for my birthday and I am LOVING it!   It’s such a fun little thing to use.   Several friends have made some fantastic online scrapbooks/blog books (using  Blurb) and after seeing how nicely theirs turned out, I decided to start one too.  This laptop is perfect for working on that, among other things. It’s nice to use at night–when I’m chilling with Rodd on the couch–or watching 24 and  need a diversion from the suspense.

Sidebar:  The day after Rodd brought this home,  every possible white spot on the cover was covered with red valentine’s heart stamps that said, “love ya” from none other than my 2 year old  L-man.  I finally got it all off.

Who needs Wii?

February 20, 2009

So who needs Wii when you have Nintendo 64?  Rodd would say he does…but this antique of his has brought much fun this week.   I have tried to sneak this Nintento into every garage sale/giveaway pile I have ever had…and he always finds it and retrieves it. (Until this week he had not played it in years.) The other night I was out and when I came home, I found all 3 of them deep in Mario Kart world—having a blast!

Logan gets stuck in one corner and stays there the entire time. I think he thinks he’s controlling one of the others that are still moving so it doesn’t seem to bother him.

Driving lessons from a 4 year old

February 18, 2009

I mentioned to Sydney one time about how I shouldn’t be talking on the phone while I’m driving, because it’s not very safe.  The last few times I’ve done it, she tells me in a very serious voice, “Mom…you have  to stop doing this.”  When she asked me this morning how to spell “No Talking” I didn’t realize what she was doing.  And then she asked me for tape &  brought me to the garage to show me my new reminder taped to my steering wheel. (I particularly like the blue phone she drew…just like mine.)  Thanks for keeping me in line, Syd. :)

Boys will be boys.

February 13, 2009

I’m going to make a confession — and I know I’m not alone in this.  I (Rodd) have a very hard time when my two year old son wants to play with his sister’s Barbie or play dress up in her princess dress.  I can’t really identify why it bothers me so.  I don’t honestly believe that he’ll grow up to be a panzy because he struts around in high heels now and then; but, wow, I sure don’t like it.

In fact, last time I saw him playing with Sydney’s Barbie, I rushed out and bought him an Optimus Prime Transformer (which, incidentally, he never really got into).

So, you can imagine my relief when, on his own accord, he has begun asking to dress up like Batman or Superman when his sister transforms herself into Cinderella or Aurora.  Yes, that has definitely helped to quell that uneasy feeling.

Things have been going well  in this department.  But just today, Kristie informed me that Sydney is undermining all my efforts to “de-feminize” my son.  One of Sydney’s friends has loaned her a DVD of Barbie as Rapunzel.  So, she wanted to play Rapunzel and wanted Logan to be the evil villainess from the movie.  Logan was having none of it and wanted to be a horse (which is pretty much all he wants to be now a days).

And so, with grace and cunning that would make even the shrewdest of politicians jealous, Sydney announced to Logan, “Logan, it’s your lucky day!  You get to be a woman all day!”

When Kristie relayed this to me, I have to admit, I had a pretty good laugh — that is, until that uneasy, tingling began settling in again.  Hmmm, maybe he and I need to have a movie night — Braveheart, X-men trilogy and The Lord of the Rings.

showers of blessing

February 12, 2009

The NTM ladies had a shower for the 5 expecting moms at NTM today and it was so special. I was overwhelmed by everyone’s kindness and thoughtfulness and generosity.  Three of the ladies are new to NTM so I’m sure it meant a lot to them to be welcomed so warmly! You can’t see what’s in the basket very well–but it was a few onesies, adorable receiving blankets, burp cloths, rubber duckie, rattle,  travel wipes, Praise Baby CD (which every mom should own) plus some $$.

My amazing sister in law who made it all happen-stretched the money  to get such great gifts, planned the games, emceed etc.

At each of our places, in addition to the yummy lunch that was served, us mom’s had our favorite food craving there as well.  Mine was hot McDonald’s fries. (The others were milkshakes, corn dogs, & chocolate).
